WILDFLOWER
Chapter One
“Our lives can finally start!” Ivy screamed at the top of her lungs that evening. “You and me!” We were on the fire-escape of our, at the time, new apartment in Blackveil, Monoris that evening. We were two baby transgirls with bad wigs and poorly done make-up between us. Still, we had the world ahead. We were listening to traffic with the occasional car horn and the passing breeze sweeping across us. “It’s like we can finally breathe.” She continued. “Yeah?” It came out more sarcastic than I meant it but Ivy caught it. She always does. She sucked her teeth and said, “Carmella, don’t do that”. There was a chuckle. “Quit being such a Debbie Downer,” and she pokes at me. “You just gotta believe. Manifest.” and she turns back out into the glowing orange. “And what exactly am I supposed to manifest?” I ask. “Everything!” she laughs. “Anything.” There's a pause between us before she speaks again. “I’m gonna be an actress. A TV STAR. and you?” “Me?” “Bitch, who else?” It takes a moment longer than I’d like to admit to come up with an answer, but I settle on, “I just want peace.” And Ivy doesn’t judge. She doesn’t argue. She just waits a moment then says, “Then we get rich first.” And despite myself, I laugh. And Ivy laughs with me. “I’m serious, girl.” “You make it sound easy.” “Cause it is!” She demands. “The world is ours, Mel. You just gotta take it.” Ivy wraps herself around my arm and lays her head on my shoulder. I hold onto her and I rest my head on hers and we sit there. Our fingers lace together. My heart begins to flutter and my chest tingles. Because the way she spoke - I could almost believe her.
